How to Use These Products Together
Bed bug elimination requires a multi-product approach used systematically:
Step 1 β Encase everything. Put bed bug-proof encasements on the mattress and box spring immediately. This traps any bugs hiding inside the mattress (a primary harborage) and prevents new infestations from establishing there.
Step 2 β Install interceptors. Place interceptor traps under all four bed legs. Pull the bed away from the wall and ensure no bedding touches the floor. Now the only way bugs can reach you is through the interceptors β which trap them.
Step 3 β Steam and spray harborage areas. Use a steamer on the mattress surface, furniture seams, and baseboards before applying any residual spray. Combine steam (physical kill, reaches eggs) with residual spray (chemical kill, 2-4 week residual) for comprehensive coverage.
Step 4 β Apply diatomaceous earth. In wall voids, outlet boxes, and along baseboards in undisturbed areas, DE provides long-lasting kill of bugs that the steam and spray miss.
Step 5 β Monitor with interceptors. Check interceptors weekly. Declining catches over 2-4 weeks confirm the treatment is working. If catches increase, additional treatment is needed.
When Products Arenβt Enough
Severe infestations β multiple rooms, wall void infestations, or bugs confirmed in furniture throughout the home β almost always require professional heat treatment or chemical treatment. The cost of repeated failed DIY attempts typically exceeds the cost of professional treatment.
Our Recommendation
Focus on treatment monitoring prevention. The best pest control products work as part of an integrated approach β combining the right products with prevention and monitoring gives you the most effective, long-lasting results.
